- We don't ask for accounts and don't collect your personal information.
- Your videos and audio are edited entirely on your device and never uploaded to us.
- The optional automatic-captions feature downloads a speech-recognition model file; your recordings still never leave your device.
- Ads and anonymous crash/usage analytics are provided by Google services described below.
Information we do not collect
We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, contacts, location, files, or any account data — because Chitrana has no accounts. No server of ours ever receives your media.
Data collected by third-party SDKs
Chitrana uses a small number of Google services to keep the app free and reliable:
- Google AdMob — serves ads in the app. AdMob may collect your advertising ID, device information, and coarse ad-serving data. See Google's Privacy Policy and Ads Policy.
- Firebase Analytics — collects anonymous usage events (like feature taps and app opens) to help us understand which features are useful.
- Firebase Crashlytics — collects crash logs, device model, and OS version to help us fix bugs.
These services help fund a free app, improve stability, and improve features. You can reset or delete your Advertising ID, and opt out of ads personalization, in your Android system settings.
App-specific data handling
Chitrana edits video on your device: your edit projects are stored locally as you work, and finished exports are saved to your gallery. Source clips you import are read only from where you pick them and are never modified without your action. Your footage is never uploaded anywhere.
Automatic captions. If you choose to use automatic captions, Chitrana downloads a speech-recognition model file (roughly 40 MB) over the internet from our pinned, integrity-checked source. This is a one-time download of the model itself — transcription then runs entirely on your device, and your audio and video are never sent anywhere. You can remove the downloaded model at any time from within the app.
Permissions we request and why
- Media/video access via the system picker — to import the clips you choose to edit.
- Notifications — to show progress while a project exports, including when the app is in the background.
- Internet — used only to download the optional captions model and for the Google services listed above; never to transmit your media.
Chitrana does not request camera, contacts, or location access.
Children's privacy
Chitrana is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from children.
Data retention & deletion
We hold no user data ourselves. Data collected by Google's SDKs is governed by Google's own retention policies. Uninstalling the app removes all local app data, including saved projects and any downloaded captions model. Because there is no account, there is no account-deletion process to complete.
Ads & purchases
Chitrana is free to use and supported by ads. If a one-time "Remove Ads" purchase is offered, it is processed entirely by Google Play — we never see your payment details.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Continued use of the app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
